Hi everyone,

I'm here with a very serious warning for you all. Do not give out your account information to anyone on the forums, in a Private Message, in the Lobby Chat or in-game Chat.

We've had reports of users that are pretending to be staff members to get account information and mess with people's accounts. We had one account, nightshrood, do several of these lately. That particular account has been dealt with in a finalized manner. First of all - Chaotic staff members will always have a Chaotic| in front of their Screen Names. Secondly - the only time we will EVER ask for account information of ANY kind is in a Helpdesk ticket or CS email response. And that's extremely rare.

If you give out your account info, you're opening your account to be taken. With the right information, malicious parties can change the email address and/or password to your account, trade your cards away, post inappropriate posts on the forums under your name, and more.

DO NOT GIVE YOUR ACCOUNT INFORMATION AWAY. The same goes for personal information.

Unacceptable. Just unbelievable and unforgivable.

I can't believe people would go as far as posing as a Mod to get to their account information. Doesn't anyone read my post sig? Guys, scamming should not be a problem to notice. There's obvious ways to detect these people! It's a shame, really... and I hope it stops right away.

And Blargers, simply looking for "Chaotic|" in front of someone's name is not good enough, if you ask me. Because players put that in front of their names upon registration nowadays, and they figure that if they don't look or at like you, all is good. Guys, let me clear this up. Doing this delibrately is NOT fine. It is impersonating a Mod. Every Chaotic Player in the world identifys that title as a Chaotic|Staff member. Using it when you know you aren't has been said to be against the rules already. It is NOT allowed for safety of the new players, like here.

To help players identify the mod imposters, follow these guidelines.

1. There are hidden mods. I get that. People like Chaotic|Soop'erkuld haven't been announced in the Introduction section. This guy always works around in the Customer Service section of the forums, especially when the other mods can't. What makes the problem even more confusing is that he is classified in the "Forum Members" group. But actually, that's what proves his case. He doesn't have an intro, but he does have a job and a written-in Post signature. In fact, I think he even has some weak Mod powers, like Quote and Hyperlink. And he IS named as staff at TCDOP.com. Therefore, we have evidence he is a mod. If someone with "Chaotic|" at the start of their name posts in the Introduction section and that topic doesn't get pinned, you can tell that person is lying. Report them and skip along. But watch it. Some real mods will have a written Post Signature and be called a Forum Member.

2. Speaking of Post Signatures... this is also another confusing problem of sorts. Imposters who are a little more clever probably don't fall for something as naive as Guideline 1. They'll probably make up their own perfect post signature, learn great vocabulary, and lurk around in small unpopular areas. Like the Army build area... or other small overlooked forums. Mods don't check those places as often as others... so this makes an easy hunting ground for the Imposter. Try researching the person in question. In other words, press their name and look up their history. Is the person classfied as Chaotic|Staff? If no, look at their title. Does it say a specified job? If not, (in rare cases, the person could still be Mod, but this one ends it) does the person have a written Post Signature? If not, and the person clearly acts like a Mod, you have found an Imposter. Report the person to Staff immediately. If you are still confused about the person, just ask Blargers. He'll be able to know right away anyway.

3. Then of course... we have the unique Occasus. He's our only Player Moderator for the time being, and Player Moderators (me being one in some websites) are a little more tricky and complicated. I can't confirm this for sure, but I think the only person who isn't Staff who will get a real Post Sig is Occasus. And yes, they don't get their own groups either. They're still refered to as "Forum Members". I realize that Blargers IS putting in more Player Moderators in the near future. But I want you to think when "supposedly" being approached by one. Think about the person in front of you. One, is he someone who acts like a Player Moderator? Two, is he someone anyone can trust, and three, would the Mods truly select him? After all, some random Uncommon Member would be very unlikely to obtain Player Mod powers. People like BigPanda or Nick07 are different. They're trusted by the whole community. OR of course, you can do the more boring thing and check their posting title. If it says something like: "Super Rare Member" instead of "Player Moderator, then it's clear that they're lying to you. Report them. This of course, goes for real Player Mods breaking rules. You'll especially want to report people like that, so the Staff Mods don't make the same mistake appointing that person into the Player Mods.

So come on people, use your heads a little better about scamming. Guys, when someone asks you something unusual, don't try to be open-minded and casual. Get defensive and press them on every insinuation they ask you about. If they make a slip-up, report them. And if you still can't tell, as for help. And Scammers, as for you, some of us are a lot more clever than you think. If you think we can't unmask you, all it takes is one hint to cause a shadow of a doubt over your head. We don't need or want you guys here. Either leave, or stop. Otherwise, we will find you and take you down. Chaotic doesn't have need for this kind of problems, and I won't let it be tolerated. Ever.

In other words, we all have to use COmmon Sense! Listen to Thomas Paine!

Person 1 vs. Person 2 (Scammer)

2: I'm a codemaster, give me your acocunt info!
1: Sure, here you go!
2: Thanks, you made Chaotic better. Giving me your credit card and social security will make it even better!
1: Sure!
2: hehe...!

I think he was scammed out of an ursis code.

Hackers dont need info, they just hack the account.

Scammers trick you into giving your info to them, then the boot you out of your own account.
