| Hey Everyone! Today I'm going to give you a great overview of what Mugic is and how it is played. I've also included a bit about activated abilities and the Burst. These are advanced mechanics, so it might be a little complicated. If you find that you still have questions, feel free to ask! Without any further ado...MUGIC!
- Mugic are special spells that the Creatures of Perim are able to use by channeling the spirits of ancient Mugicians. The spells are cast during a game using a Creature’s “Mugic Counters.” Each Creature Card has a Mugic symbol on the bottom-left of the card with a number inside. That number is the amount of Mugic Counters that Creature starts the game with.

- Any Mugic Counters on a Creature are considered to be of that Creature’s tribe. Any Mugic Counters on Chaor will be treated as UnderWorld Mugic Counters.
- Every Mugic spell has a cost associated with it. This cost is shown by the Mugic symbol that shows up next to the ability text. To use a Mugic Card, you must pay for it by removing the same amount of Mugic Counters from a Creature that has the right tribal affiliations. Generic Mugic can be cast by Creatures from any tribe, but tribal Mugic can only be cast by members of that tribe (unless specifically stated otherwise). While many of the Mugic Cards and Creature abilities only cost one Mugic Counter, there are some more powerful ones that can cost two or even three!

- Creature abilities that require Mugic Counters as part of the cost can only be paid for by the Creature Card that the ability is listed on. This means that Maxxor’s heal ability can only be paid for by Maxxor. Some Creature abilities do not require Mugic Counters as the cost, but require some other type of payment.

- A complete Master Rules army will have the same number of Mugic Cards as it does Creatures (i.e. a 3 Creature army will have 3 Mugic Cards, and a 6 Creature army will have 6 Mugic Cards).
- Mugic Cards are held in your hand throughout the game and can be played at your discretion during special “priority points.”
- When a priority point occurs, the active player has the opportunity to take action first. If the active player chooses not to take action and passes, priority then goes to the defending player. If neither player takes action, the priority point passes and the turn progresses onto the next step.
- When a player has priority, they have several actions that they can choose to take:
- Play a Mugic Card
- Use an activated ability from a Creature or Battlegear card
- Pass
- There are many of these priority points, but some of the major ones are:
- After an attack is played – Whenever a striking player plays an attack, a Burst is opened (the attack will be the first thing on this new Burst). At that point, the striking player has priority to take action and add to the Burst.
- Before moving or passing with a Creature – After a Creature is chosen to take an action (more or pass), but before the type of action is selected, the Active Player receives priority to play Mugic Cards or abilities.
- Currently, this priority point occurs slightly differently in the online game (temporarily). In the online version of the game, the priority point occurs as follows:
- After a player declares a movement – When a player proposes a movement for one of their Creatures, a burst is opened. At this point, the Active Player receives priority.
- After a Creature is defeated – Once the Burst ending combat is resolved the surviving Creature (if any) is placed in the space occupied by the defeated Creature on the battlegrid. The Active Player then receives priority.
- “The Burst” – The Burst is a timing system common to Trading Card Games used to resolve multiple effects in a structured manner. The Burst functions as its own zone separate from the Battleboard, hand, or discard piles. When Attacks are played, Mugic Cards are cast, or activated abilities are played, a Burst is either opened or added to. When a Burst has opened, one player will receive priority to respond and add to the Burst. Once they have made their action or passed, the other player has the opportunity to continue adding to the Burst. The priority will keep going back and forth between the players as long as they continue adding to the Burst. Once two successive passes have occurred, the Burst closes and resolution begins.
- Burst Resolution – Many TCGs, including Chaotic, utilize a system called “Last in, first out.” This means that the effects on the Burst will resolve in reverse order; the last effect on the Burst will resolve first, and effects will continue to resolve backwards until the first effect on the Burst is resolved.
- Healing – One thing to remember about Burst resolution is that a Creature cannot be healed beyond its maximum Energy. That means that if a defending player tries to heal a Creature in response to an attack or other source of damage, the heal will resolve first.
- Example – Player A’s Chaor is and Player B’s Maxxor just engaged, and Player A plays a Flame Orb for 20 damage. Maxxor has not taken any damage yet and is at his maximum of 65 Energy. Player B tried to add Maxxor’s heal ability on the Burst in response to the Flame Orb. At that point, both players pass and the Burst started to resolve. Since the heal was last effect added to the Burst, it resolves first. However, since Maxxor was already at his maximum Energy, the heal does nothing. Then the Flame Orb resolves and Maxxor takes 20 damage.
- If Player B let the Flame Orb resolve and let the turn pass to him, he would have been able to follow his own attack with Maxxor’s heal and actually heal the full 10 points of damage.
- “Defeated Check” – If the resolution of an effect on the Burst destroys a Creature, the Burst will continue to resolve until completion. Any subsequent effects during the resolution of the Burst will continue to resolve. If an effect on the Burst no longer has any legal targets (i.e. if it targets the defeated Creature), that effect is removed from the Burst.
- Burst Resolves in Draw – No game of Chaotic will ever end in a draw. If the complete resolution of a Burst would result in a draw (destroying both players’ remaining Creatures), the Burst will not fully resolve. Instead, the effects on the Burst will resolve until one of the effects results in the destruction of all of one player’s remaining Creatures. At that point, the Burst will stop resolution and the game will end with one player victorious.

| With sacrifice abilities, the sacrifice is considered part of the cost. That means that you will actually sacrifice the Creature when you declare the action and add the effect on the Burst.
So in the scenario you mentioned, Tianne would be sacrificed as soon as you put his ability on the Burst. Once you've added that to the Burst, your opponent receives priority. They can continue by adding another effect on the Burst, but since Tianne has already been sacrificed, he is no longer a legal target. That means that they would not be able to play anything to try and defeat him before his ability would resolve. The only action (at this time) that they could use to negate his ability would be to dispel it.

| dizzasta (1/24/2008) Can we use refrain of denial to dispel creature abilities?
The wording for Refrain of Denial says:
Dispel target Mugic.
That means that it will only work on Mugic Cards, not activated abilities. I cannot say exactly when there will be cards that can dispel activated abilities, but there is nothing in Set 1 that will do so.
All the Tiannes and Klasps are very powerful for now!

| | This answers SO many questions I've been wondering on about how they will implement mugic and bursting to Chaotic. The priority point is a brilliant idea. Can't wait to try it out first hand. |

| | I remember hearing a mugic on the allmageddon episode that negates creature abilities. Refrain of...something. Most likely coming out in a future edition. |

| | Very few creatures have enough Mugic counters to use spells such as Refrain of Denial, and unfortuntly the best creatures to use for high level Mugic that need 2 Mugic counters is the Big 4 |

unless they are the last 2 creatures in the game, they will both die, if they are the last 2 creatures in the game, the first to die according to the burst order will lose |

In regards to Recklessness, it is a triggered ability that triggers and is placed on the Burst after an Attack is played by the Creature with Recklessness. This means that Recklessness goes on the Burst on top of the Attack card being played and will therefore resolve first. In the scenario you described the Striking Creature with Recklessness will lose the game because his Creature will take Recklessness damage and be defeated before the other Creature takes the Attack damage.

| When a player has priority, they may play Mugic from or use activated abilities on any Creature they control (even Creatures that are not engaged).
